KCS supplied VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) of Bi-modal Tram to Hankuk Fiber

(Seoul, October 29, 2010)

Korea Computer & Systems Inc. (KOSDAQ, 115500) announced that it would supply Hankuk Fiber two units of VCU that have been developed and tested for the past 3 years in partnership with KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). The main objective of the joint development project was to replace foreign brand VCU with localized one and to commercialize the VCU for overseas market as well as for domestic market. To meet the required safety and reliability standard, KCS has tested VCU at a test track site in Miryang of Korea by placing it on a bimodal tram manufactured by Hankuk Fiber.  The test site consisted of a bimodal tram, a test track guiding the bimodal tram, and a smart station that was another KCS product jointly developed with KRRI as a subsystem of a new generation transportation system.

The bimodal tram that is a CNG hybrid bus, automatically controlled by magnetic induction has been designed either to run on a guided track or to operate on a common road like a typical bus system does. The VCU controls and monitors all the subsystems in the bimodal tram and allows a driver to check vehicle status displayed on a dashboard. With the current shipment, KCS is expected to obtain the 1st commercial reference site for the VCU. KCS also expects orders for smart station next year.
